Dr. Mohd Zaidi Ismail
Dr. Mohd Zaidi Ismail is currently the Deputy Director-General of the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM). He obtained a Bachelor Degree in Economics (Hons.) from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in 1992; Masters degree (M.A.) in Islamic Thought from International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization (ISTAC) (1995), with a thesis titled “The Sources of Knowledge in al-GhazaÌ„liÌ„: A Psychological Framework of Epistemology”; and Doctorate of Philosophy, also in Islamic Thought from the same institute (2006), with a dissertation titled “Existence (al-wujuÌ„d) and its Relation to Quiddity (al-maÌ„hiyyah) in the Later AshÊ¿arite KalaÌ„m: With Special Reference to Ê¿AdÌ£ud al-DiÌ„n al-ΙÌ„jiÌ„’s al-MawaÌ„qif and al-Sayyid al-ShariÌ„f Ê¿AliÌ„ al-JurjaÌ„niÌ„’s SharhÌ£ al-MawaÌ„qif”.
His academic experience includes serving as Assistant Research Fellow, ISTAC (1992-1995); Research Fellow, ISTAC (1995-2003); Lecturer at the Department of General Studies, Kulliyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences, IIUM (2004-2006); and Senior Fellow at the Centre for Science and Environment Studies, IKIM (2006-2013); and Principal Fellow at the aforementioned centre (Jan 2014 - Sept 2015).
Beginning from October 2015, he has been Deputy Director General of IKIM. Among his published works are: Aqal, Ilmu & Pendidikan; Kerangka Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah (IKIM, 2018) a collection of his articles published in Utusan Malaysia and Sinar Harian from 2014 to 2017 based on the Worldview of Islam framework by Tan Sri Prof. Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas; Islam and Higher-Order Thinking: An Overview (IKIM, 2014); Good Governance: Adab-Oriented TadbiÌ„r in IslaÌ„m, co-authored with Dr. Mohd Sani bin Badron (IKIM, 2011); and The Sources of Knowledge in al-GhazaÌ„liÌ„’s Thought: A Psychological Framework of Epistemology (ISTAC, 2002). He is the Co-Editor for the Malay festschrift for Professor al-Attas entitled: Adab dan Peradaban: Karya Pengiktirafan Untuk Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas (Kuala Lumpur: MPH Publishing, 2012).
