Dr. Mohd Farid Shahran

Dr. Mohd Farid Shahran is currently the Director of the Centre for the Study of Shariah, Law and Politics of the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM). He obtained his Bachelor Degree in the revealed knowledge studies and Islamic heritage in fiqh and usul fiqh from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) (1994), Masters Degree (M.A.) from the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilisation (ISTAC) (2000) with a thesis titled “Fakhr al-Dīn al-Rāzī’s Logic: An Edition of His Mulakhkhaṣ fī alḤikmah wa al-Mantiq” and Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D) from ISTAC (2006) in the field of Islamic Thought with a thesis titled “Divine Transcendence and the Problem of Anthropomorphism in Fakhr al-Dīn al-Rāzī’s Kalām”.
His career began as a Research Assistant, ISTAC (1995-1998); Research Fellow, ISTAC (1999-2003); and then as Lecturer at IIUM (2003-2011). Among his published works are: Fakhr al-Din al-Razi on Divine Transcendence and Anthropomorphism, A Refutation Against The Literalist (ISSI-KRM-Ta'adib, 2017) and Akidah dan Pemikiran Islam: Isu dan Cabaran (ITBM,2015).
He is involved as a member in the Aqidah Expert Council of JAKIM and a member of the National Fatwa Council of Malaysia. In addition to writing papers for academic journals, magazines and newspapers, he also presented working papers in various seminars locally and internationally and delivered several series of talk and courses about religion, creed (aqidah) and ethics at the National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN), Institute for Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) and several training institutes throughout Malaysia.
